Just as a Black & White photograph concentrates the eye and mind on the subject without diluting the composition with colour, the same can be said for a well executed pencil drawing. It enables the viewer to examine the detail through form and texture by suggesting colour through shading. Instinctively the colour is both present and irrelevant. It invites you to examine up close the fine detail and then makes you back away to see the image unfold to a photographic-like quality.
